Tadroopi is a Kannada play written by Prasanna someone around the 1972 emergency in India. It's a political satire and mainly brings out the following aspects. Tadroopi in kannada means Look alike. Dictatorship is very dangerous for any nation. It gives power to one individual and kills the rights of people.

Who can be a leader? Should he be elected or should he choose his own ways to get elected. Or should the power come to him as a right just because one of his Parent, Grand Parent was in power. and One of the most difficult things a leader or a dictator in particular goes through is the duality in his emotions and character.

To stay in power, he is forced to display a particular emotion in the front of everyone that he is strong, powerful but he suffers from loneliness when he is alone. He believes no one. The seat of power is a camode in the play. The leader is also disgusted with his job as the role is forced upon on him and he holds the seat of power with disgust.

Different emotions are shown of a Dictator. He is cunning, he is scared, he is suspicious, he is disappointed, he is crazy, he is alone.

This version of "Tadroopi" is staged by Sanchaya, a Kannada Theatre group based in Bangalore. The play was directed by Joseph John for Sanchaya.
