Vidya Lakshmi
Oil on Canvas 36 X 24 Inches Landscape
Devprayag is the 5th and the last prayag of river Alaknanda. Here Alaknanda confluences with the Bhagirathi river. This confluence gives birth to river Ganga and thus the name Devprayag which means Godly confluence. The temple at the confluence is that of Lord Vishnu as Raghunath (Ram) and his consort Lakshmi as Sita. It is one of the 108 divyadesam dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Legend states that this temple is associated with the times of Ramayana, where Lord Ram ( avatar of Lord Vishnu) is believed to have performed penance to relieve himself off the curse committed by killing Ravana. As a person Lord Rama is said to be a personification of an ideal person. He had within him all the desirable virtues that any individual would seek to aspire. According to some scriptures he is called as Pacchai vannan which means Green Beauty (skin color) in literal translation. The colors of the rivers are in these shades of Green depicting his skin color.
