16 mornings

The series of drawings are a set of charcoal studies I made of my pillow. For a couple of weeks, every time I got up in the morning, I would observe the shape that my pillow would be in, and the light from the window that would fall on it . In drawing them each day, in order to capture this light I would actually be observing and paying attention to the shadows and marvel at how these transform to something almost like landscapes and again some days they would just be folds of cloth. The thought that this mundane activity of getting up and using the same pillow each day is everything but that, where the same pillow is actually a different pillow every morning, with a different light falling on it each day, and a different shape of my head it has taken from the night before; this thought is what inspired me to make this set of drawings where each paper is also of the size of that pillow, where the pillow becomes the paper, leaving little to no space for anything else.
