The Beautiful Things
"As an artist my attempt is to understand and express thought through the medium of my practice that undercurrents of social and personal existence. Everyday a cacophony of visual references is presented to me by my immediate milieu, which becomes the springboard for my explorations and ideations.
For the visual representation I had been influenced by stylization of Salvador Dali and David Hockney. From Dali, for example, I adopt the surrealist tool for visually representing my thoughts and ideas in my work, whereas from Hockney I draw his humorous approach towards even the most somber of concepts to create a symphony of dialogues between emotions, culture, society and experiences.
My previous body of works inspired from stories that I experienced from different phases of my life journey such as childhood memories etc. I also like to fantasize my dreams in the form of stories and political approaches towards me.
Since the beginning of my art practice, the notion of embodying fairly elementary objects with a more profound secondary and probably even higher connotation has fascinated me. Thus, part of my process involves an investigation of symbols and metaphors, which have often, in the past, been used as devices to capture and articulate ideas, adding a deeper level of significance and meaning. By incorporating various metaphorical symbols such as crow, apple and cactus, I wish to convey my thoughts and concepts yet leaving them, to some extent, open for interpretation.
In my recent body of works, self-experienced incidents are being explored through the archive data to create visual stories with multiple perspectives. References in my works acts as inspirational key points to evoke the visual framing on canvas.Through multiple compositions of the same story in ‘Water Series”, I am trying to attempt various ways of perspective towards the same event of time.
Ultimately, my attempt is not to fabricate stories of higher import but simply to represent the truth as I see it. I question various aspects of the social realm by utilizing humor as a shield, in an attempt to understand my place in society. Sometimes sarcastic and sometimes as plain as a mirror, my work reflects my experiences and thoughts occasionally occurring as questions and at other times as confessions.
