Through trees, foliage, light, and shifting colour, Maitra transforms personal memories of the natural landscape into poetic and emotionally resonant visual experiences. Born and raised in a semi-urban region of West Bengal, Maitra grew up surrounded by the quiet beauty of the natural world. His relationship with nature is not merely observational but deeply experiential. In moments of solitude, he recalls sitting amidst tall grass, listening to birdsong, the movement of wind through leaves, and the sound of running water. These encounters offered him a sense of solace and renewal, establishing nature as an enduring source of emotional and artistic inspiration. At the heart of Shadow of Blossoms is Maitra’s exploration of trees as living presences—rooted yet constantly transforming. Sunlight filtering through branches, the layered density of foliage, and the luminous presence of blossoms become vehicles through which the artist expresses states of joy, melancholy, serenity, warmth, and contemplation. Rather than depicting nature as a fixed landscape, Maitra approaches it as an emotional language.
