JOURNEY- 40

I took my inspiration from IDITAL- it is a form of painting of tribes in Odisha. With an interest in painting, an eye for detailing and love for creating paintings, I started making paintings at a very young age. I have been on this form of painting since last 15 years and have been exploring different mediums and colours of the painting.

In my paintings I have depicted that, because of modern era the mythological and the cultural essence of Indian tribes have degraded. The loss of cultural roots forced them to face identity crisis which leads to their separation from the society and modern world. my paintings have brought out the crisis they are having and has attempted to portray the old rural culture in modern era.

My paintings are filled with earthy flavours and natural colour that depicts simplicity and purity, which is the soul of our tradition. The influence of rural people, their tradition and culture are clearly visible in my paintings. The colours which I used in my paintings are close to nature that captivates our souls. I have shown an intense and powerful bond between the nature, tribal villages and tradition.

My paintings give evidence of passionate concern with the drawing and colour to produce intensely sensuous and poetic representation of the simple and peaceful rural activity that we compare with urban surrounding.

My work is an attempt to analyse the impact of modernisation of the religious customs and traditions of the primitive tribes living in Odisha. It shows how modernisation and urbanization has brought major changes in tribal culture. Industrialization and fast modernisation has come with a price of extinction of culture and traditions of the primitive people.

In my painting I have painted the essence of the old rural culture of the tribes. This artwork is an attempt in the approach of giving importance to the slow destruction of the traditions which once was the heritage of tribal culture which accounted for the loss of their indigenous culture and this has been documented in my paintings.
