VILLAGE TALES

I truly believe art transforms the mundane to the extraordinary. It is with that in mind I decided to paint this rather everyday scene that I spotted on a trip to the city outskirts, as I was passing by a village.

This painting is an ode to the multi-tasking nature of women, who nurture their family and are equally adept at managing work outside.

The vermilion background with gold leaf motif is a nod to the Indian women – what they wear on their forehead, their jewellery and their closeness with Mother Nature. The painting has been done primarily with spatula to bring out their quite inner strength.
