Untitled (Set of 9 works)

Raju Baraiya
Mixed Media on Paper Each 10 X 10 Inches

My inspiration comes from observing and correlating the rural and the urban and vice versa. The continuous push and pull between the rural and urban makes me wonder and trigger the visual intrigue. I have been deriving imagery from these seemingly ambiguous notions of the urban and the rural.

The nature and complexities between the two spaces create a common meeting ground for me to explore through an impression I hold of them. I intend to translate the ever-evolving image of their convergence.  I attempt to create a kind of workable space, where both these worlds come at one place for me and a space to be manipulated and redefined and even fantasized at the same time. My impressions and insights urge me to approach them in a manner of mark-making. These marks further proceed in a representative image of convergence. The images and associative memories coincide with each other to redefine an existing relationship or to present a newer contradiction.  There is an innate sense of vulnerability that I feel being in the city and being away from my native town and for that matter the vulnerable nature of existence.  This makes me wonder about the state of being of each one of us.
